San José del Cabo Marina Guide

San José del Cabo has a different character than its neighbor 20 minutes down the road. It's built around a historic downtown rather than a nightlife strip, sits on the Sea of Cortez side of the peninsula, and puts owners within easy reach of the Gordo Banks fishing grounds. A quick note before diving in: unlike La Paz or Cabo San Lucas, the San José del Cabo area doesn't yet have three independent full-service marinas. It has one excellent option in town, one newer luxury option about 45 minutes up the coast, and beyond that, owners typically look toward Cabo San Lucas. We've laid out all three below so you have the full, honest picture.

1. Marina Puerto Los Cabos

Location: Paseo de los Pescadores, La Playita, San José del Cabo, B.C.S. — VHF Channel 22A.

This is the primary marina in San José del Cabo and the clear top pick for most owners based in the area. It sits beside a freshwater estuary at La Playita, in a gated, secure complex that's part of a 2,000-acre master-planned resort community. It's noticeably quieter than Cabo San Lucas — a deliberate part of its appeal — while still offering real infrastructure, including a boatyard run by Marine Group Boat Works of San Diego with a 150-ton travel lift and Mexico's first dry-stack storage facility.

Specs: 230 slips currently in operation (with plans to expand toward 400 and a full yacht club), on individually gated floating concrete docks. Slip sizes at 30, 40, 50, and 70 feet, plus numerous options for vessels 100 feet and above. 30, 50, and 100-amp power. Depth up to approximately 4.5 meters (about 15 feet) at mean low water.

Amenities: Fuel dock, pump-out station plus a pump-out boat that comes to you, dock boxes and carts, metered water and electricity, restrooms and showers, secure parking, boater and crew access to Hotel El Ganzo's amenities, discounts at local golf courses, and an on-site restaurant with live weekend music.

Pricing: Historically priced toward the upper end of the Los Cabos market, comparable to Cabo San Lucas rates. As with every marina in this guide, get a live quote from the marina office — per-foot pricing shifts with season, slip size, and exchange rate. A small number of slips without shore power are typically offered at a reduced rate.

Notable policies: Less naturally protected than La Paz — Puerto Los Cabos sits on open coastline near the estuary rather than a sheltering bay, so many owners haul out at the on-site boatyard or relocate to La Paz ahead of hurricane season (June–November). The marina office can recommend a local agent for customs and immigration clearance. It's about 5 minutes from San José del Cabo's historic downtown, 20 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport, and 20 minutes from Cabo San Lucas. Book well ahead — the marina runs close to capacity for much of the winter cruising season.

2. Marina Village at Costa Palmas (East Cape)

Location: Costa Palmas, La Ribera, East Cape — roughly 45 minutes east of San José del Cabo.

Worth knowing even though it's a genuine drive from town: Marina Village at Costa Palmas is the newest and most upscale marina in the broader Los Cabos region, anchoring the Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas. It's a semi-private, full-service port built with a breakwater and a deeper entrance suited to superyachts, and it's becoming a genuine draw for owners who want resort-level amenities without Cabo San Lucas's crowds.

Specs: Moorings for vessels up to roughly 250 feet.

Amenities: Maintenance services, fueling, tailored provisioning, private dockage, and dry-stack storage, plus power, ice, water, and WiFi. The Marina Village itself is a walkable hub of cafes, boutiques, and dining, and slip holders have access to the surrounding resort, including an 18-hole golf course.

Pricing: Not consistently published — as a newer, high-end private development, pricing tends to be handled on a direct-inquiry basis rather than a posted rate sheet. Given the resort positioning, expect this to sit at the top of the regional market.

Notable policies: This is a genuine drive from San José del Cabo proper — factor that into crew logistics, provisioning runs, and guest transfers. It's best suited to owners who want to base at Costa Palmas itself rather than use it as a quick stop while cruising the corridor.
